ABOUT US | OUR SERVICES | FOCUS ON CHILDREN | EVENTS | VOLUNTEER The Songs of Spring
As I write the birds are singing their little hearts out, and it is such a lovely reminder that Spring does come for us every year. We have the promise of renewal and that is precisely the hope that allows our families to do the hard work necessary to get back on track. ![]() Have you ever seen a nest of newly-hatched baby birds four or five of them with their mouths stretched wide open waiting for the mother bird to feed them? Not so long ago that picture could have been superimposed over the faces of some of our families. Many of our mothers have had to look into the faces of their hungry children and tell them there was no food or that they were going to have to move again. For them Sisters Place has provided a home and support as they try to gain employment or become stable enough to live independently. What might once have seemed to be insurmountable obstacles are organized through step by step goal setting and follow through. Our parents tackle the hard issues with the help of our case managers. As the months pass, many of them complete important training or education, get a job and keep it, work to stabilize their children’s lives and schooling, and take steps to reestablish their credit. This past month Tamara, who has been working full time as a nurses aide, completed her time in our transitional program and moved into an apartment with her children. Late last year Gretchen earned a social work degree and was promoted where she works. We are thrilled to tell you that she just bought her own home and is moving there with her children next month! Thanks to your support of Sisters Place we can report little miracles. We could not do what we do without your help. So next time you hear bird songs, think about all the nests that are empty and waiting for the next family. You are helping us to help the homeless, one family at a time.
