We learn a contemporary craft!   Part 1

We're at the Society of Contemporary Craft, creating writing pens with an old-fashioned look.

It all starts with rectangular blocks of wood, colored markers, and the ink supply removed from inexpensive ballpoint pens.

"You must all wear safety glasses," the instructor tells us.

And as she begins to carve the rectangular block of wood into a pen shape, we understand why. The wood chips are FLYING!

The shaping completed, we take turns feeling the smooth curve of the pen.

The instructor shows us how to use the markers to add color to what so far is the body of a very plain wood pen.

We are eager to be do-ers, not just watchers.
