Hats off to Moms Our hats are off, or more precisely ON as we celebrate the gifts to the community that is Clairton by this year's "Hats Off to Moms" Awardees!  The Rev. Dr. Judith serves as pastor of First A.M.E. Church in Clairton and is recognized for her urban ministry in general and her work with and on behalf of women and children. She is the first woman appointed as the Dean of Pittsburgh A.M.E. Institute's 3rd District.  Irene serves in the Transfiguration Parish in Monongahela and in her community. She is an active participant in a number of church groups and committees, volunteers at St. Vincent DePaul and with the Mrs. Claus Club, and is known for her needle work, crafting, and cooking.  Mrs. Johnson (November 20, 1937-March 12, 2008) gave more than 40 years of volunteer service to the Clairton community. She was particularly dedicated to working with children and youth: providing after school and tutoring activities as well as foster care for a dozen children through the years. She was also actively engaged in the ministries of Morning Star Baptist Church. Members of her family were honored guests.    Edie is celebrated for her devotion to her family and friends. Her daughter Jackie and her youngest grandson were residents of Sisters Place until she passed away unexpectedly in April 2009. Edie and her husband have adopted Jackie's older sons and are in the process of adopting her younger son. Edie is a strong advocate of the work of Sisters Place and the staff's commitment to the present and future of the women they serve. Don't miss Hats, Hats, and More Hats!
