Housing Eligibility Requirement and Guidelines


Permanent program eligibility

The Permanent Housing Program provides housing to single women with disabilities, which include drug and alcohol addiction (must have 6 months clean time), mental health diagnosis, mental retardation, physical disability, and HIV/AIDS. Disabilities must be considered a permanent disability, not a temporary illness.

Eligibility requirements:

  • Homeless or near homeless
  • Must have custody of at least one child or be 7 months pregnant
  • Documentation of disability
  • Verification of income (must have an income)
  • Provide copies of birth certificates and social security cards

Transitional program eligibility

The Transitional Housing Program provides housing for single women, with priority given to women between the ages of 18 and 30. Women must be working or attending school/training and working towards self-sufficiency. Families may reside up to two years. Applicants must have custody of at least one child or be 7 months pregnant.

Program guidelines

The Permanent and Transitional Programs share the following guidelines:

  • A monthly program fee is charged at 30% of the resident’s adjusted gross income with electric and heating utilities paid by Sisters Place.
  • Residents must meet with their Case Manager weekly to set and develop goals related to life skills, education, employment, budgeting, health, and other individual issues.
  • Residents must meet with the Child Development Specialist weekly to enhance parenting skills, assess needs of the children, provide child care referrals, interact with the children through play and learning activities, and address other child related issues.
  • Residents must adhere to recovery contract, CYF mandates, and probation/parole mandates if applicable, and individualized goal plans.

Sisters Place provides life skills classes, referrals for GED preparation, career planning sessions, an after-school program, summer day camp, tutoring for children and adults, field trips, food pantry, limited transportation, and referrals and advocacy to other service providers as needed.
